"I have a very small amount of gearcase oil on the garage floor, and looks like it's coming out of the prop. What does this typically indicate needs to be replaced? ('78 outboard, 35hp Evinrude)"

"Seal kit,if you have damaged a prop in an way and it is not turning true it will wear out a seal, much like an unbalanced car rim will destroy a tire,or it may be just have worn out, what ever the case have a qualified tech perform this, as speacial tools and torque specs are required. Have your props checked yearly,it will payoff in the end.
Good Luck"

Pressure testing of the gearca

Pressure testing of the gearcase is how you trouble shoot. The oil on the floor may indeed be the oil mixed with the fuel running down the inside of the exhaust housing.Test it before spending your time and money.
