gearbox oil leak

My 85 40 hp Johnson have an oil leak at the small hole ( 5/32" DIA) just bellow the intake water screen . In the part diagram, it shows a set screw and an o,ring but i dont have them in the bore. I take a small screwdriver,i can touch and move the screen .I this setscrew is only to hold the intake water screen in place? Or it run into the gearbox.I will drain the oil this week to see if its contaminated.

Is the oil milky looking coming from hole or is it black?

it caramel color like new gear oil .i just got the motor and the previous owner told me that he just had the seals replaced ,i am not certain the job was well done.

IF THE SCREW IS A PHILLIPS HEAD DO NOT REMOVE!!Sounds like mabe a seal leaking!Find out where he had them replaced and take it there!!

The small hole is a drain-----------------------Do not fix anything that is not broken !!!----------It is normal for a bit of oil to leak there.

Thank you Racerone its a releive that i dont have to split the gearbox for a leaking seal. Parts are very hard to find and takes weeks to be delivered. The summer last 8 week-ends in Quebec and 3 are already gone It took 3 weeks to receive a powerpack and i am waiting for a fuel pump kit for 2 weeks now .
