Gearbox clunking

Hey guys,
I have recently done some changes to engine and put a new controller in. I had to adjust shift and throttle cables. Gone by the book and pretty sure i got it right, but now i have a clunk clunk clunk noise after it is in gear and just off idle, as soon as a rev up a bit more its gone. Would this be in my adjustment of gear selector? As before i was having issues with going into reverse. Its seems very temperamental to get this adjustment bang on. I have just had it in the shop and they are saying i have a problem in the box. But this didn't happen before i put new control box in. Any ideas before i pull the gearbox off and start stripping.

Cheers

Yeah, it would be your adjustment. It can be difficult to get it right. Get the gear lever perfectly upright in the dead centre of the neutral position. Turn the prop by hand and make sure it is spinning freely. Moving the gear lever FWD or REV should take the same amount of travel before the prop cannot turn by hand. If moving it one way gets it into gear with less or more movement than in the other direction means you should adjust it some. If it gets worse you need to adjust in the other direction. Clunking means it is not in gear properly. The fact that it gets quiet when revving up means the adjustment is definitely not dead on yet, since revving it up also means moving the gear cable more into gear.

Yeah did some adjustments on the water tonight and think i finally got it right. I may buy some new shift cables as there is quiet a bit of play in these ones which could also be the reason. Doing a test run this weekend so see how it goes.
