Gear ratios

Can i use a 1993 5.0 ford omc lower unit in my 1988 5.0 chevy omc set up? Ford unit is model no. 987124, chevy is 985271. Gear ratio is the issue. Maybe change prop?

First of all, there is no substitute for a correct final drive ratio as per what the engine and hull size dictate.
Typically, we cannot prop ourselves out of an incorrect ratio..... it just simply doesn't work that way with hydro-propulsion.

Good news is..... both the GM 5.0L and the Ford 5.0L offer hp and torque of nearly the same values.

Look up the final drive ratio of either, and post the numbers.
