Gear Oil Leak Repaired

I recently had a hear oil leak on my alpha one sterndrive. Located a leaking hose from the transom to the outdrive unit, it was difficult to get at but I was able to replace it.
My question is what is the best way to clean of the oil residue from the exterior housing of the outdrive, can I use brake cleaner or engine degreaser without harming the paint or any of the rubber bellows?

I would use diesel and then soap and water, with small paint brush
Could also try WD40 if you want to spray it

Thanks for the advice, wasn’t sure if brakets cleaner might be to strong

Brake cleaner is caustic and can damage rubber parts. Use that stuff only on rotors and brake parts

Don't use carb cleaner or acetone either

Done, a little WD40 scrub with a paint brush and then scrubbed again with hot water and dish soap, rinsed with garden hose afterwards.
Worked well!!
