Gear lube leaking

I have a 1989 Johnson 90hp outboard. It's been in the garage all with the motor trimmed down. Yesterday I moved the boat about halfway out of the garage and noticed after about an hour there was about 2 cap full's of gear lube that had leaked out from around the prop. Removed the prop and everything looks ok. No fishing line or debris back there. I cleaned up the gear lube that dripped out and no more has leaked. Any thoughts or should I not worrie.

Is it really black oil? Most likely that's just unburned oil from your exhaust. Gear oil and a fill pump are cheap. drain the lower unit into a pan and look for water and metal shavings. If all is good, refill with fresh oil and go boating.

It's gear oil and it's clean no water in it

Then next step is to pressure test the lower unit and find the leaking seal.

Also do a vacuum test on it.

Just a couple of psi in that lower unit,should hold overnight
