Gear lube color

Drained and refilled my gear lube and the fluid was pea soup color. Last year I switched to the synthetic blend so it is clear green/blue color going in.

I drove the boat approximately 1/2 mile to ramp, pulled the boat, drained the system so the lube had a time to get warmed up and mixed. There wasn't any froth like you see with motor oil.

Is this color normal for the blend upon removal?

I'll see if I can get a picture posted.

You might want to have the gearcase pressure tested to see if there are leaks.-----------------Let the oil sit and see if tiny air bubbles come out and it might go to it's original colour.

New oil is whatever colour the manufacturer fancies making it.

I'd expect new oil, what ever its colour to be "clear and bright" in appearance.

After prolonged use a little darkening of the colour might occur but if it should still be "clear and bright". Any milkiness will almost certainly be due to water ingress.

Oil with air bubbles entained still looks bright and sparkles. That flat dull appearance says water to me.
