Gear case o-ring 1963 10hp

I have a 1963 Johnson 10hp - qd24.

I am trying to replace the o-ring # 301877 part # 18 on the gear case schematic .
Any tips on how to remove the bushing # 303332 # 17 on the schematic or how to replace the o-ring with out taking out the bushing?

I use a brass rod 5/16th inch diameter by about 18 inches long. It is just narrow enough to pass through the o-ring but still catch the lip of the bushing. Good rap with a hammer and the bushing is driven out.
