New here, so sorry if my questions seem dumb. Just bought a 1990 40 hp Johnson (TJ40ELESR) with a bad impeller. Being a novice at outboards, I pulled the shifter rod out of the gearcase instead of disconnecting it under the carbs. So now I need to tear apart the gearcase and put the shifter fork back in place. Can anyone help me out with a procedure for this, or would I be a lot smarter to take it to a professional? Any help would be appreciated!
