Gauges for 1997 50 4 stroke

Gday, I have just bought myself a 97 50hp mariner , im wanting a new console fabricated so i wouldnt mind some gauges , it came with rpm and volts, what else can i set up on this , water pressure ? injection of oil working or not ? cheers guys.

You will probably have to check with a Merc dealer for specific "assessories" that can be added - the service manuals don't detail everything you can hook up.

In general you can definately add a water pressure gauge - either from Merc or many of the aftermarket companies supply them and they can be "generic" to fit many different models.

You may be able to add an oil pressure gauge and a trim indicator if you have power trim/tilt.

Just don't be shocked at the price of some of these if available for your model.

The gauges often sell for 40 or more bucks a piece and the sender or sensor for the other end can easily exceed that.

But having said that, I believe you can never have "too much" information at the dash letting you know what your multi-thousand dollar motor is doing.

If you detect a sudden loss of water pressure (your pickup sucked up a plastic bag) and you can shut it down "before" you weld a piston into the cylinder, then that 100 dollar gauge/sensor just save you a 2500 dollar powerhead rebuild - well worth it....
