I have a 302 winsor coupled to a 888 stern drive and I am planing on fitting a mercruiser d626ti diesel engine . both motors are rated at the same 180hp approx.can anyone tell me if this will work or not before I waste a heap of money for nothing:

Ayuh,... I donno that motor, muchless it's horsepower, 'n rpm limits...
But,...
I do know that your old Mod.1 drive was Never used with a diesel motor...
I'm also quite sure you're going to have a Bunch of fitment Issues....

diesel engines develop much more torque than gas. your drive will not handle it. other issues as well, but the drive wont survive. don't waste your money.

Yea I would say not to do it unless you have a lot of money to get rid of like the others said. Diesels are made for making a lot of low rpm torque your gas drive is not geared to use it and your prop would be way wrong if you could change the gearing that is if its made for your drive and got a good pro to figure out the right prop you then would start bracking parts such as keys gears bearings and what ever else it may be a set up that you don't know if it will make it back every time you go out not fun and. As far as I know arould here chgo gas is cheper on the water than gas so think hard first oh and diesels weigh a lot more wich can make a boat drive a lot different also and you'll have to change your fuel system over to diesel filters hoses seals ext so have fun if you do it let us know how. It goes.
