"I haven't had aboat in awhile ,and I'm getting mixed advice on how to set the relief valve on the gas cap on the tank? I've been told that it stays unscrewed while running and I've been told that it has to stay closed.My impression is you would leave it open to breathe?I have other starting issues ,I'll be replacing both coils,spark plugs,condensers,and points.I'm doing this while I have it apart, is there anything else that I should be looking for?"

"Well if you have an older motor no fuel pump, with a dual line hose ( pressure tank ) the cap need to be tight.Newer motors with a single line it needs to be vented.Model # of your motor???"

"It's a 1961 Evinrude 40 Lark-3,it has fuel pump when we closed cap, bowl would not stay full.Once we had it run for about 10 seconds,at most,when we had cap open gas would stay in bowl,do you think that would cause vaccum lock?I'm not getting very good spark. Going to replace coils,points and condensers,plugs and trying to figure out wiring. Thanks for your help! MM"
