i have a 1970 mercury 50 hp 500 series i am having difficulty with i think is a gas flow issue first i know the mixture is 50 to 1 i hope.... and it will start but it acts like it is starving for gas and bogs down and stalls out then it is hard to start ..wish their was a video on how to properly start this motor i hold the choke button down and turn the key and the primer bulb is full but do i move the idle lever up when i am starting or leave it off and once it wants to start do i stop pushing the choke when starting...please help

and one more thing i hope my mixture is close if not could that be the problem..should i dump the gas and start again or what..

50:1 is correct, first be sure your tank vent is open. 2 stroke fuel without stabilizer isn't supposed to last real long, but I don't think it would cause what you are seeing. Maybe your fuel pump is problematic, maybe you're running on one carb because the needle valve is stuck? Rebuild kits are cheap and carbs are pretty easy to rebuild.

Here is my starting proceedure. Pump the ball 20 times or until it gets hard, I run my motor out of fuel at the end of each day so your number of pumps may be less, pump till the ball is hard, that is key. Hold the choke ON, put the fast idle up to 50%, crank for 10 seconds when cold and then fire in the hole! My initial cranking time of 10 seconds is probably due to the fact that there is no fuel in the motor. After that, put the fast idle to 50% and just blip the key and it's running again when warm. If I have been fishing in one spot for an hour or so I may have to hit the choke again.

sometimes when I used to mix oil and gas I would get it wrong and foul out the spark plugs, would pull them out and either clean or replace them, worked for me.
