Gas line issue

Hello.

I have a Yamaha 70 HP (2011). The engine started right up this spring but would consistently stall after 15 seconds. I could pump the bulb and it would start again but stall after 15 seconds. That told me it would burn the gas in the engine but it was not receiving any more gas. In continued testing, the bulb would no longer pump so I replaced it. Now even with the new line and bulb, no gas is going in the engine.

Not sure where to troubleshoot further. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I think I remember your issue from another thread? You were going to replace the build and then check the VST filter? I think you also have lower pressure fuel pump. Both are relatively easy to get at. For the LP pump, you can simply crack the bolts a bit and then use the primer. You'll see gas coming out if your LP bladder is bad.

Yes you are correct. I have further explored the issue and therefore reposted without what I know now to be unnecessary information.

I do plan on trying to run the engine out of a container of gas I have. If it runs, then I can confirm the issue is not related to the engine.

Please excuse my ignorance but where would I find the fuel pump? I have searched up schematics of the fuel system for this boat but not found it.

Thank you.

Thank you. Just tried the external tank and the engine sounds great. No issues. So at least we have the issue narrowed down.

I have very limited access to the internal engine. What I do have access to I have attached in this pic. It looks like a rubber sheathing is melting/dissolving. But I have no idea what that cable is. I started to take off the screws holding that plate down but gas started to come out, so tightened it up to do more research.

That’s your fuel level sender for the gas gauge. You need to find out where the fuel line for the engine connects to the tank. There will be a barbed connector that the fuel line from the engine connects to. Then there is a square head fitting that the barbed fitting screws into. That is the fuel pick up tube. The other end of this goes down nearly to the bottom of the tank. These can have a screen on them that gets clogged with crud. I would definitely try to get that out & check it.
