Gas leak on 1990 merc

looks like gas leak is around

looks like gas leak is around carbs. changed all the hoses but still have leak. never have had any leaks since i bought new in 1991. any suggestions? doesnt leak while running only after motor is shut off.

What's the horsepower?

Could be bad gasket between carb/intake or could be a bleed hose that has got disconnected (again depending on horsepower)...

"Craig, take hold of the carb and try to make it move. If loose at all, tighten the mounting bolts.

I will post a diagram of the fuel system. Locate the bleed lines and see if one has "popped off" - they scavenge gas/oil from the reeds and feed the upper and lower crank bearings to keep them lubricated.

If the carb is tight and the bleeders are fine, the float valve in the carb may be sticking causing it to (flood) by allowing any residual pressure in the gas line to leak out of the carb throat - if thats the case, the carb needs to be removed, disassembled, cleaned and possibly rebuilt.
