Gas in crankcase oil

I have a quart more than full and found it to be that gas is in the oil. A mechanic said that running too rich can do this. How does gas get from the carburetor to the crankcase, or is that really the problem?

You might take a look at the thread that I started..... just down the list a few entries.....
" AQ140 ... Lots of gas leaking into bilge" ..... I had a similar situation ......

I suggested the fuel pump to a boat mechanic and he said that the fuel pump would pump the gas back into the carburetor thru the sight tube if the diaphram was leaking.

Thanks John. I read your thread and it does sound like a similar problem. I am putting a new carb kit in. I suspect the power valve is leaking because it also idles rough and the mixture screws don't affect it. I sure didn't know that the gas could get down to the crankshaft that way though. Does this also suggest worn rings on the pistons to let the excess gas by?
