I have 60hp evinrude on a 24ft pontoon that uses about 6 gal per hour at 3/4 throttle. I just bought the boat and the guy said they just rebuilt the carbs. Im an old mech but not on outboards i havent done a compression check yet and when it runs a while it dosent want to restart any thing will help!
 
I am not standing beside your motor, but this is what I would look at.-------------If fuel pump diaphragm was ruptured then motor would use a lot of fuel and carburetors would run near empty.---Repair kits are available
 
an hours running covers a lot of water......you may improve gas usage some but not a hell of a lot in my opinion....
 
Huh, must be the 60hps... I've got a 60 hp Evinrude on a 21'pontoon. It seems to suck a fair amount of gas too. Just got it, used, so still figuring out the details, but it seems to be a hog. I've got a 13/14 prop. on it which came with it originally. Will post more as I learn it. maybe we can help each other out. Mines a 1991.

Tore down fuel puup looks good but the linkage doesnt look right lower shift cable all the way out top cable has some adjustmen left wont go into reverse till about 90 percent top bolt all the way out bottom bolt all the way in synking problem?????
