"I have a 1990 30 hp Johnson&#

"I have a 1990 30 hp Johnson(ELESS). I bought a parts manual and a Maintenence book as well.

I always kept the plugs new and changed the LU grease every year.

Heres the story, I bought the motor about 6 years ago. And it has ran like the king of the lake for the first five. Last year it started running a little rough. Being the type of person I am, I decided to buy the manuals and do whatever I could to bring the ol'girl back to glory. I rebuilt the Fuel Pump, Electroninc Primer, and Carb. Last week when it was all fnished It started up after turning over for a while. At the time I was using a 2.5 gallon vented tank. I noticed when I primed the bulb. Gas gushed out of the (high speed?) nozzle(in the center looking from the front). It only did it if I pumped the bulb. Fuel pressure was fine, it would idle and not die or any thing.(however it would flood and die when I pumped the bulb) So I went on a de-carbed the motor using deep creep. Today, when I went up to the lake to start it up and take a spin. I filled up A different tank(a bigger tank, the the old metal kind the have the little glass with the red marker that shows the gas level.) Man this thing has pressure, when I pumped it up gas was flowing up out of the nozzle on the the body around the butterfly. I mean flowing looked like a gyser.

What I am asking is what is wrong here? I rebuilt the carb. Could I have messed up? What about the float needle? It was replaced during the rebuild. the float can't be stuck that bowl was CLEAN. Also, nothing says where the Nozzle gasket needs to be placed on the nozzle, not the manual or anywhere on the net. I just slid the new on, could this be the probem. Can someone please help me? The nearest Johnny mech is about 75 miles away.

Please tell me your thoughts, I am hoping someone can help me get through this."

"Flooding like You indicate :

"Flooding like You indicate : leaking needle valve!
Either float adjustment wrong, assembly fault or simply a defective needle valve. (may happen even with new ones)."

What about The nozzle gasket?

What about The nozzle gasket? Any reccomendations? I will look pull the carb and look at the needle and recheck the float.

There is no 'nozzle' g

There is no 'nozzle' gasket. Only a plastic washer between the seat and carb housing. If that one is missing and float not adjusted = problems!
Hold the carb upside down and float should be parallel to carb/float-bowl sealing surface.

"That is what I am talking abo

"That is what I am talking about the plastic washer, the plastic washer that has three little fingers on the inside hole. In my parts catalog it calls it a Nozzle Gasket. When I pulled the carb originally it was just loose on the nozzle. When you say seat and carb houseing, do you mean the top and bottom housing of the carb?"

Yes I have the washers between

Yes I have the washers between the needle seat and the carb housing. If you look at a rebuild kit there is a washer that has three finger on the inside that is the one that I am refering to. Thanks

"I think You might have mixed

"I think You might have mixed two seals/gaskets.
Pos 17 - nylon washer (white?) under the needle valve seat.
Pos 20 - brown/black rubber washer with 3 'tabs' at center and is called 'nozzle gasket'.

"I did'nt mix them, item 2

"I did'nt mix them, item 20 is the one I am talking about. Is it supposse to slide freely on the nozzle? The one that was replaced did. What I was asking is there certain position/spot/height that is is suppose to go on the nozzle? Thanks"

"20 is just to seal from air-l

"20 is just to seal from air-leaks. If defective or missing the main jet will not be active, instead air is sucked in.
Your flooding problem is most likely caused by the float valve.
When taking the carb off, test it by hooking the fuel line from tank onto the carb, press the bulb and test. (Block off 25)."
