"1978 johnson 85 hp on a 20 ft

"1978 johnson 85 hp on a 20 ft landau - Uses alot of gas - example, pulling a 90 lb. child on a tube at full throttle (19 mph) and 2 adults on board for 10 minutes will use about 4 gallons of fuel- not joking. Have a 14x9 prop and had to put a hydrofoil on motor to get the back end out of the water. Anyone have any ideas to why it is using this much gas or is this normal?"
 
You need to check for a ruptur

You need to check for a ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pump or a bad / improperly adjusted float valve in one or both carburetors.It is using more than normal.

"Thanks, I'm not sure on how to adjust the float valve, I'v cleaned both carbs before and did not see an adjustment. Can you give me some direction on that? In the mean time I will check the fuel pump. Thanks alot."
