gas cans and hoses

I just got the Johnson 90 running and after I let it set it drips fuel at engine fitting and the fuel can seems pressurized. I see no vent. are the caps automatic vent? 2 metal tanks both using same hose. should I replace hose fittings or is there likely a problem with the tank pressure.??

i was having the same problem with the newer style epa fuel tanks. even with their "epa vent"....i was having problems. i found that when i loosen the fill cap, my problems went away. i bought several old style fuel tanks and have not had a problem since.

That is when I noticed it was tilting the motor up. I smelled fuel and saw fuel standing in the transom. I will disconnect fuel line and run it out of fuel before pulling it out. Also may try loosening the cap after I use a little fuel. Engine did not appear to starve for fuel so maybe the tank is OK.

went cruising this morning. before pulling up ramp I disconnected the tank hose and ran the eng out of fuel. Tilted up and no fuel leaking. thanks for enlightening me.

some of these new tanks will not vent properly with the vent screw...brand name tanks too...its a EPA thing i guess... moeller for one if you dig enough on the web.....

New laws say that the tank cannot emit fuel vapor. For that reason, the vent is one-way, allowing air into the tank, but preventing any from escaping. You have already found some ways that people have invented to defeat the system. Just don't tell anybody, especially in California.
