I have a 1995 evinrude. After

I have a 1995 evinrude. After it sits for a long time I will start it up and a solid long alarm goes on for about 10 seconds then shuts off. Then so does my engine. It won't start easy after that. If I do get it started I have to keep RPM's high to keep her running. Eventually it just won't run. I emptied my fuel/water seperator which had a lot of water in the mix. I also changed my filter which I had with me. It started and ran great. Can anyone confirm that the alarm was indicating that the gas had water in it? Any suggestions on getting it out of my tank? Thanks

"It might depend on which engine. If Your engine has a vacuum switch, and You have a filter with 'paper insert' in the system, that might be the reason."
 
I was ready to head out this w

I was ready to head out this weekend and my sensor went off again. I went to the OMC dealer in town and he said it could be my power pack and or rectifier. My Volts measured only around 10. I replaced the older of the batteries and noticed a tremendous power difference in cranking. I don't think that my batteries were getting a proper charge. Any thoughts on the alarm coming from a rectifier caused problems?

It helps if we know exactly what engine we are talking about. 1995 is not enough info.

"Sorry its a 1996 225 evinrude. Everything I am reading on forums is saying since its not actually overheating then its a fuel restriction and to check my anti-sphion valve ontop of my tank. Last year it ran great, I did however misjudge my fuel consumption and ran it out on my port tank. May have picked up debri."

I also remember seeing that my vent for my gas tank was very corroded. There was a lot of oxidation and I think I may try and run my engine with my fuel fill cap off first.
