Fwd gear engaged after impeller change

Hi folks
I had the need to changes my impeller so we removed the lower unit and change the new impeller and gaskets. No issues so far although we could try because .....
We putted the LU back and now the engine start on forward gear. Please help
seems that i’ve done Something wrong obviously.
the ping hear selector that I connect to the lover unit seems fine but it doesn’t do a thing as it keep on FW
what's the trick putting this LU back

toya I removed the LU again
I can see the shaft and propeller spins clockwise so it in FWD
what does the shift shaft does ... seems like a lose thing thank push only
please help
 
you put the control box in full forward
You put the lower unit if forward by turning the splined shift fully clockwise while turning the prop CCW until locked
Install the lower ,to turn the shaft to align the driveshaft SLIGHTLY turn the prop counterclockwise a touch

It won’t get out of fwd
 
Drop the lower unit again.
Rotate the gear selector/spline shaft,you may need a vice/mole grips for this,wrap cloth on shaft to protect the shaft, at the front of the gear box, until it clicks three time in quick succession.The middle click is neutral,go there,check if prop spins free in both directions.
Turn the shaft clockwise one click,this should be forward,check if prop clicks in one direction and locks the other.
Put control in forward,fit gear unit
