"This may be confusing but I will try to explain it so everyone else might have an idea about the problem.
Having V-drives, my manifolds and elbows are reverse mounted. The OLD manifold assembly has a 1" wide water adapter between the manifold and the elbows. Every diagram I can find for these engines does NOT show this assembly. It shows the flow diagram going from the elbow to the back of the heat exchanger. Am I supposed to eliminate this adapter and just go from the top of the elbow to the heat exchanger? I did find on page 63 of the TECM 547 manual, an FWC kit #22667 BUT, that is the only description.

I did not repower this vessel so I am not too sure what the original installer had in mind."

"Rick, This is a question I need to find the answers to as AFTER 2 years, I still have not located the serial #s. I am 90% sure they are 1990s. Is it realistic to believe that they begin with 818***?
Is there a tag on the intake manifold? I know how important it is to have those details during this type of re-assembly but so far, I just don't and as many times as I have crawled thru this compartment looking, I have not bee that agressive or successful"

"I have that same manual but it is for a 454 and does not show that 97295 part in any exploded view. This will surely help. It does seem that I MUST get new water outlets. If I use the elbow, it is the wrong coolant mixing to get blown out of the exhaust , True?

Which Number manual is this picture from Rick?
I also have the 3 bolt thermostat cover..This should not make a difference in operation but maybe plays a role in the illustration?"

I have been looking for the ID

I have been looking for the ID tag for some time but still have not found it. IS it likely the tag is under the v-drive stuff hidden by the heat exchanger and starter stuff? I do have a 5 5 90 tag with screws on each end that looks like it is molded onto the intake manifold but I have not been down to the boat to look AGAIN for this magical mystery tag. Of course IF this by some stretch a DATE ID of sorts....May 5 in 1990 was a Saturday. I'd bet they were closed !

"This is from TECM517 July 1987. Illustration is cooling system, not manifolds. You might want to check in that section, you may have this same page."

"I will check but I have check

"I will check but I have checked SO many times. I am a firm believer in doing it ONCE....Right, but ONCE !

Wasted too much time with the 95% efforts that screw up eventually anyway...Better to take the time and effort the first time. That usually works

BUT Rick...Thanks to that diagram you posted and a look into the old manifold, IF I dont use that adapter, it would be a big mistake...I think I would be pumping coolant into the elbow as the block off plate separates the manifold and the elbow, true?"

"Al,

You would not dump the AF because the blockoff plates are there. But you would not circulate coolant through the manifolds without them. The manifolds do not have discharge fittings allowing the coolant to return to the heat exchanger, the fittings are in these plates.

Rick"

"Rick, Thank you for the clari

"Rick, Thank you for the clarification. I knew something would not be right. I was not able to determine what came out of those fittings in the rear of the exchanger. Frankly, despite all the diagrams I have, and the hoses going all over the place the best diagram is the other engine."
