"Does anybody know proper proceedure for flushing coolant? Owners manual for 8.1MPI engiones says every 5 years. I am in the process of removing heat exchangers and exhaust elbows, and have removed most (5 gals per engine!) of the coolant in the process. So I figured a good flush of FWC side after assembly would be good, as there is still a bit left in the block I assume. Can't find proceedure on how to flush system easiest and cleanest way."

"Roger that. It has been drained, just wondering if it would be prudent to flush FWC section with fresh water before filling back up with Dexcool. Question is how to flush with fresh water to ensure everything inside gets rinsed."

I just did mine. I put the garden hose in the fill neck and watched all the brown crap run out of the four drain plugs. (two on manifolds and two on block.

"You could use a couple pints of Peak or related flush; run for 4 hours, drain a couple of times, then fill with coolant/water."

"Thanks. I like the idea of introducing pressurized water (garden hose or equiv.) in filler neck and pushing water through to a single exit where it can be captured (not in bilge). So with engine off, can you introduce pressurized water into fill neck and open one drain valve in a manifold and expect water to exit there after circulating through?"

"I don't think so. The bottom of the block will be dead ends, and see no flow with engine off. Lots of rust likes to hide there. Best to find the two manifolds plugs, the two block plugs and pull off the large coolant hose into the circ. pump. My experience is with the 7.4, not the 8.1 however."
