"Has anyone had problems with STP brand fuel stabilizer? Can you add too much to the fuel causing problems? The only directions for use on the container is 8oz. will treat 20 Gallons.(US)The reason I ask is that after adding this stuff, my motor(restored 63 Evin 28)ran like crap on it's first outing on the water. It ran fine at home in the my test tank before adding the stuff."

Just my opinion but I think the fuel stabilizers cause more problems than not using anything at all.
Seems that every engine that has had this added to the fuel ends up needing the carbs torn down and cleaned out.

I have not used this stuff for many years now with no problems with fuel problems.

The best thing that I have found is to either drain the fuel out and coat the tank with oil to protect it from rusting or fill the tank with fuel without any oil.
It seems that the oil mixed fuel is what has problems with going bad.

Again this is my opinion and I'm sure others feel that stabilizer is the best thing since sliced bread.

I just got tired of cleaning the green grunge out of carburetors. Once I stopped using stabilizer in boats and snowmobiles a strange thing happened. I no longer had to clean the crap out of the carbs.
