fuel pump

New member
i have a johnson 20 hp 20r72r . with fuel pump missing . i sent for new one but cannot blow through inlet port. i read where if you cant blow through it its no good . do i return it or take apart? thanks jim
 
Are you sure it is the inlet port you are trying to blow into? In that one, comes out the outlet port. Don't take it apart if you expect a warranty replacement.

i cant blow through either one. Is it hard to blow or easy? Maybe i will send back for new one. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt working. Thanks jim
 
If you bought it ---on line-----Send it back.-----If you bought a factory part then the dealer who knows motors and parts could test it for you.
 
I wonder how much you spent on it? It hard to blow to test them because of the check valves. Try suction on the carb side....then you will get some noise as the check valve operates. It takes maybe 10" vacuum to activate a new pump. A human force max is about 20" of vacuum.
