"I removed my vro pump. I bought a new fuel pump, but after a little inspection I realize the pump is for a 20-30hp johnson. Mine is a 85 model 70hp. The shadetree marine shop where I bought it will not give refunds, so I'll never use him again, but will this fuel pump supply my 70hp engine? pump is a replacement for omc #438555 . Instead of the 438559 (old#385784) Thanks in advance"

"ok now the fuel pump is on, engine cranks, idles, revs good with the cold start lever, but when put in gear and pushed to wide open throttle, it feels like its tied to a stump. Engine will not accelerate or turn any rpm like it should. It will run like this as long as you want, but will never come out of the hole and plane the boat. Its a 17 foot Bass Tracker with a 70hp Johnson. Should run pretty strong."

"The 3-cyl engines might be a bit tricky when it comes to the carbs.
Air-box needs to be attached and all gaskets in place to create the vacume needed to get the high speed jets to start.
Jets need to be clean, and correct float-level.
Next question might be if the trigger ring is moving correctly when throttle is advanced?"

"i would ck ur spark and compression too...,make sure carbs are CLEAN,esp the jets in bottom, and see that timer base is moving fully to rubber stop,as morten suggests.inst new parts in carbs."

"Finally got engine to run out. I rechecked my carbs and even though they were spotless clean I had a needle stuck in the bottom carb. Now I need to know if theres a good way to set my wide open throttle timing, without a test wheel or tank. Thanks to all for the good advice."
