Fuel pump check valve replacement question

Hi all. I'm replacing the gaskets on the fuel pump for my 1975 Merc 500 50 hp. No idea how long it has been since they've been changed, but the ones I took off were in horrible shape. The check valves seemed to be fine, though, again, I have no idea how old they are. Should I just go ahead and replace them? If not, should I clean them with something in particular for good measure?

The kit was just the gaskets and didn't include the check valves. The check valves are about another $12.

Ditto, and be sure to remove/ replace the old gaskets.
