I have a 7.5 hp Evinrude engine built in 1975. Have rebuilt the carburetor and put on new pulse fuel pump. Engine runs good as long as I pump the primer ball. when I stop the engine will surge and cut off. carb bowl is empty

Post a model # as I do not believe there was a 7.5 in 1975 model year.-----Need to start this process the right way with knowing what you have.----Was there something wrong with the old pump ?-----Did you check hose ?---Did you check INSIDE the fuel tank for leaks / problems ?

Revisit your fuel pump installation.----Outline exactly what you did !------Common mistake is to hook the fuel pump up to the existing air hose to the tank.-----That would not be a pulsing signal to run a fuel pump.

My son bought a 7.5 hp evinrude engine built in 1956. model 7520 without a fuel tank and did not know much about it. It ran okay as long as you primed the carb. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb and it runs and idles fisurgene. It has a external fuel pump made by Mukina. I replaced it with a new one cause I didn't think it was working. Hooked up a single gas line from a tank. It cranked right up and runs well as long as I keep priming the ball. when I stop it will run a few seconds, surge and then stop. The carb bowl is empty. Any ideas

I don't see an answer to previous questions! If you are absolutely sure the pump is installed correctly, check the sintered metallic filter element inside the glass bowl. You should be able to blow through it when it is removed. These can be totally clogged and still appear visually clean. Soaking the filter overnight in carb cleaner usually does the trick.
