"Please can someone advise. The overflow gushes gas periodically. When I removed pipe at tank level, the gas gushed out under what seemed like high pressure. Can some one provide a solution"

Are you talking about the fuel vapor vent on the outside?

Fuel expands w/heat; overfilling the tank will cause it.

"yes I am----but when I disconnect the hose at tank level inside the boat, the outlet on the tank spurts out under pressure. Even when I release the filler cap"

The vent hose comes from the tank to the vapour outlet and loops before exiting----is this correct----looks so as there are brqackets holding this in this position

Is it a 360 deg. loop? That could trap fuel in the bottom of the loop if it has a dip in the loop which would create tank pressure and no way to relieve it.

If it can't trap fuel then it is correct; it prevents fuel from gushing out the vent; only allows vapours out.

The vent or fill hoses can't have dips along its path.

Guys---many thanks----I will take the loop out and hopefully this will solve the problem.

Ayuh,... Bad Idea,... That Loop keeps Water out of your tank...
The loop should go from the vent fitting, Up,.. then down around to the tank,...
The Problem you have is the tank is Over Full...."

"It sounds like he may have overfilled once and the fuel backed up into the vent, got trapped in the low spot of the loop, and is now preventing ventilation. I like they idea of a Racor (or similar) water trap. I installed a variation of the one shown on the web site attached by Ej Breeze many years back and it solved my problem of water intrusion from the vent as well as preventing fuel spills.
Without the filter, I'd run the vent hose straight up from the thro hull fitting and then loop down to the tank. This will prevent a low spot from forming, and should take care of any water intrusion, The water could block the vent tube as easily as overfilling if the vent outlet in poorly located and there is a low spot in the hose."

"I had a 78 blue fin fishing boat with an alum. fuel tank. when you would over fill it like Bondo says,
and it would sit it the sun for a while and get hot, fuel expands and it would spew out the vent all over my drive way,I quickly learned not to fill it so full."
