fuel not getting from tank to engine

I just had a new engine installed in my 1988 luhrs 290.It is a GM350 cube 270 horse.after the engine was installed it wouldn't turn over. It seems that the fuel is not getting from the tank to the carb. Please help.

I have the same questions as Kim does.
Please explain.

If the "no fuel" is your only issue at this time, you can perform several checks and tests that would benefit you no matter what.

Remove the fuel tank pick-up tube. Examine the end, and/or any screen at the end of the tube.

Remove the anti-siphon valve. This valve should allow air flow to pull the ball from the seat easily.

Next..... see if you fuel filtration system is flowing freely.

You can use a Tempo Oil Boy to pull against the fuel line at the fuel pump location.
If the Oil Boy will not pull fuel, then you'll likely have an issue with some portion of the fuel system prior to the fuel pump.

After either confirming that all is OK..... or correcting an issue, see if the fuel pump is pulling suction.

If you do not own an Oil Boy...... you should! :D

"Just installed" infers a third party...I would hope they have a vested interest in completing the job....

"won't turn over" isn't the same as "won't start"...it helps to provide accurate info....

If the original engine was replaced with a "new" one, what is being used for the fuel pump?

Thanks guys. guess I was so vague because I am not really a mechanic. Here's my story. my daughters boyfriend who is a heavy equipment mechanic and a weekend shade tree mechanic said I had an oil leak in the engine that he couldn't find. My son-in-law who is a welder with a crane on his truck said if boyfriend could disconnect engine from boat he could pull engine. engine pulled boyfriend discovers that there is very low compression in three cylinders. I buy a reman engine from Marine power in Farmingdale, boyfriend pulls everything from old engine and installs on new reman engine. we finally get the engine back in the boat and when he tries to start the engine he finds that its not getting any fuel to the carb. there is a unit between the tank and the separator ( three wires and a pump) this is where he says that the fuel is not pumping from. Hope this helps, and you are right it won't start. By the way this saga started in May and it is now almost September.

Improvement on the detail helps but the picture still isn't complete.

If the reman engine was the same vintage, I'd suspect the mechanical pump...but...based on the "mystery unit", I'm inclined to think somebody added an electrical pump and the "old" engine" didn't have the oil pressure safety switch....

Any identifying information on the "mystery" unit? where are you, up on LI?

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I am in New Jersey at Cassidys Marina on the Matedeconk.I will try to see if there is anything on the mystery pump tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks again

Might want to get the "boyfriend" to share whatever he can remember about the fuel pump from the original...and I'd ask him where the "leftovers" are, too...

shouldn't be too hard to get this one resolved...
