"There was a whole series of engines built that were (rated) 100:1 I own one myself, a 1978 Evinrude. I was told however, to never run at 100:1 - just way too lean.

So I have taken that advice. I do see the plugs slightly oil fouled after a season, but I change them every spring.

That motor is now 20 years old and it still starts on first or second pull after winter storage, I have never had to clean/rebuild the carb, never replaced anything but the plugs/impeller and I do use it alot during the season.

And despite the "mix at 100:1" sticker on it, I plan on continuing to use 50:1 mix.

There is an OMC master technician who posts alot on the OMC pages - he's been a tech since before alot of us were born - and he states that the 100:1 experiment was a "mistake".

So up to yourself - but like in my case - my one motor is 20 years old, still working fine - nothing ever rebuilt....."
