"I have recenly puchased a small tinnie with above motor but with no paperwork or handbook. can anyone advise correct fuel mix?
Also I need to check lwr gearbx oil level as it has small leak through prop seal. I notice there are 3 screws (2 close together one blade type & one phillips heads slightly above & to the right) and then another blade head about 6" above them, do I fill in the higher one until oil flows out?

Thanks for any assistance"

"The correct fuel mix is 50:1.

Don't mess with that philips head screw - it is the pivot pin for the transmission shift fork. If you take it out and the fork moves out of alignment, it's a bear to get back into place without disassembly.

To drain the oil, remove both top and bottom slot-head screws.

Fill from the bottom hole until oil flows out the top hole, then close off the top, remove the oil filler and close off the bottom one.

If you have oil coming out around the propshaft, then it is probably time to replace that seal (recommended!). While you are in there, replace the driveshaft and shiftshaft seals as well as the impeller. If you've just acquired the motor and don't know when the impeller was last replaced, you should do it now."

"Ken,
Thanks for the quick response.
I had actualy removed the phillips screw prior to finding this message board, however it went back in again, so I guess I just need to check that we still have fwrd /rev selection & it will be ok?.
Is the impeller you refer to the water pump impeller?
Are these jobs that I could do myself & do you have any idea where I could get a service manual from. Although I have never owned or worked on outboards before (no knowledge of the inside except the obvious) I have river raced jet boats for 15 yrs in NZ so have built 350 small blk race mtrs & also worked in aircraft maintanence & have a good tool kit but no specialised outboard tools if these are needed?
I have only run it on the dry, did get it serviced when I purchased it 6 mnths ago & at that time water pump tube was initially blocked but is pumping good now & they advised not overheating. Have been too busy working & fixing trailer to get out fishing but intend to take it out tomorrow,"

"John,

Yes, I was referrin

"John,

Yes, I was referring to the water pump impeller. Do not run the motor out of water -- the friction will kill the impeller.

As long as you can read directions, you should be able repair on your own. Use a Clymer or Seloc manual for guidance (there could be one at your local lending library), or you could get a real service manual ..."

"Hi there Ken,
Great to hear

"Hi there Ken,
Great to hear from u again, apppreciate the assistance. Yep- can read! & type of sorts! so I should be OK
Took it for a run on the river yesterday , running good but prop seal definately leaking (although not bad) will need attention, & yes that's a good idea to replace waterpump impellor at the same time. I think I am on to a manual on ebay?
Incidently can I ask what area u are responding from? I am down on the gold coast in Australia.
Thanks
John"
