" I have received conflicting advice on the proper fuel mixture for a 1968 Johnson 100 HP motor on the "new" boat we recently purchased. Is it 40 to 1, 50 to 1, or something else? The serial # is #j2868391.

" Ozarks.... It is the "Model" number that designates the year, hp, etc of the engine, not the "Serial" number. The fuel/oil mixture for the 1968 100hp Johnson is 50/1 (1pt 50/1 oil to 6gal gas).
