Fuel Line Replacement

"I recently changed all of the fuel and oil lines on my 1985 - 185hp Johnson. Someone suggested that the reason my motor was smoking so much could be from a fuel leak and sure enough they were in pretty bad shape. The only thing i did was disconnect the old and install the new. When i was done i pumped it up, choked it and it started and ran for 10 seconds. Figured all was good. I put it in the water 2 days later and noticed right away that it was idling slower. It began stalling as soon as it warmed a bit. I left the marina and gave it some gas but it wouldn't give me more than 1500 rpms. Pumping the ball didn't do anything and the filter seems to be ok. The buzzer went off intermittently for about 15 seconds when i first started it but then went off after it picked up the oil ( i figured). Question: Do i have to prime the VRO pump. Seems like it just wasn't getting enough gas and this thing ran like a champ before i replaced the lines."

welcome to marineengine!

im with jwb..sounds like a fuel restriction to me.

if you dont buy the preformed fuel lines for your boat and just go to the parts store and get regular fuel line---youll have to make small loops to avoid a sharp turn and like jwb said a kink or a pinch.

i used regular fuel line on mine and it looks like giant grape vines in there from the little loops and large fuel lines.

p.s. most of my new lines are 2-4 inches longer than my original to allow for the loops.

I have an opportunity to buy 3

I have an opportunity to buy 3 rebuilt carbs on ebay from a 1989 175h.p.. Would that fit on my 1984 or 1985 185h.p. without affecting power?
