Fuel line question

I'm replacing my entire fuel line, including the gas tank, and every bit of documentation says to use 3/8" fuel line. So when I actually look at the fuel pump fittings, they're smaller, apparently 1/4" lines.

My question is, can I use the 3/8" line I have, and use an adapter to connect to the 1/4" fitting at the fuel pump? Would this overstress the fuel pump, or cause other problems? Should I start over and run 1/4" line from the gas tank to the fuel pump?

Thanks!

Your old AQ100 likely used 1/4”.
If the fuel pump is equipped with threads that will allow for replacement 3/8” barbed gasoline line fittings, I would suggest doing that.
Also install a Marine fuel filter with 3/8” barbed fittings.

NOTE: do not mistake tapered pipe thread fittings for a compression type thread fitting, or vice versa !

Suggestion:
Pull the fittings from the fuel pump and take them with you so that the type can be identified.
As I've said, I do not know this old engine.
You may have tapered style Metric threads, you may have US TPT, or you may have flared seat style fittings commonly used for tubing.

These will be barbed fittings for gasoline fuel line ONLY..... DO NOT use pneumatic hose fittings.
