Fuel Line Question

[h=2]I have a 60hp Evinrude. The fuel line goes from the motor and to the primer bulb (arrow towards motor) and then to a 90 degree fitting on top of the tank. I can't get the bulb to take on gas. The bulb is new (replaced due to motor hard to start & hadn't been replaced in over three years). I disconnected the hose from the inlet side of the bulb and blew on the line to the tank (listening for gas gurgling). I could not blow into the hose. Is there a check on the tank/fitting that would prevent backflow? Thanks [/h]

The ball has a check valve in it not allowing gas to flow back to the tank. When pumping it hold the arrow pointing toward the sky. Especially if you bought a cheap ball from wal-mart. Most of the time they will pump up if you hold them this way. If it won't then you may have an air leak between the ball and the tank, or the little hose from the top of the tank to the bottom has come off, not allowing it to suck gas. You can also test the hose by just sticking the tank end of it in the fuel tank and it should suck up gas and pump up the ball

Thanks thebubba. The fuel line also has a check going into the tank. I disconnected the connector going into the motor and was able to get the bulb primed. From there I reconnected the connector to the fuel line and all is well. I guess you can say I primed the primer.
