Fuel Leaking from Carb

I just finished rebuilding the carb on my 1960 40hp Lark II, and it is leaking excess fuel from the carb. It didn't do this before the rebuild and now the motor will start but not run very long. I won't restart very easily after that. It seems to only want to start when the choke is in the off position. I'm just not sure where to start troubleshooting the problem short of taking the carb back off.

There are 2 areas that I was not 100% sure about when I did the rebuild. First, the choke is spring loaded and the Seloc manual didn't explain very clearly about how to reinstall it. It is possible I hooked the spring to the wrong side of the lever. Second, the high speed and low speed adjustments could be incorrect. I installed them using 2 packing rings and 1 plastic rings, screwed them all the way in and backed them off the recommended amounts. Otherwise, I am not sure what could be different.

I also installed new points and condensers. I seem to be getting good spark, but the plugs are definitely wet. I'm not sure but it almost seems like there is a little water in the fuel, but I can't imagine how it would be getting there. I double checked all my hoses and I believe they are clear and connected to the right places.

Any ideas where to start my trouble shooting?

It sounds like your float is not shutting off and flooding the carb. There are some great posts about how to properly adjust the float in the forum by real experts.

Carburetor float or float valve needs to be revisited.-----------------a second point is, the carburetor settings from a book will allow a motor to start and keep running. They MUST be fine tuned on a boat in the lake for final settings.
