fuel filter/water separator

Will a sierra 18-7844 fuel/water separator work on a 1997 Johnson 50 hp outboard? The application is for a mercury but what is the difference?

If the filter is an after market it should work. But if it's the orginial OMC filter built by OMC the hole for the filter is a different size. I'm talking about the bracket/mounting area.

It is an after market and I agree that I believe it should work. My only concern is that it says it is "Used on Mercruiser and Mercury Engines". Just wanted to know why it would not say "universal"--what would cause it to work differenctly on a Mercury compared to a Johnson????
 
Intall it ---------------The labels mean nothing.-----------------Just make sure you do not have " too many filters " in there.---------Remove the filter that is under the motor cowling.
 
Replace the filter that is under the mtr cowling and leave it there. It's a good back up and won't hurt a thing.
