Fuel Filter Question

Back again! 2003 5.7 Captains choice engines. They look to have a "UFO" style fuel filter plus a cartridge filter in the canister surrounding the high pressure pump. Are these "replace only" or can they be inspected and visually determined to not be clogged, or can either or both be removed and backflushed? Prices for the UFO are a little high if it really is a one time use filter.

The screen inline that feeds the low pressure pump is normally called an Oberg filter - you can clean and reinstall them. The 'cartridge' filters are replace only. you can measure the pressure drop a filter has, when operating, to assess it's "state of clog".
