I have a 25' Hydra Sport C

I have a 25' Hydra Sport Center Console with Dual 200HP (V6) 1992 Mercury's. I can plane my boat with one engine on a calm day but was wondering what is more fuel efficient. Running one engine at 90% (26mph) or running both engines at around 50% (28mph). Wondering if anyone knew the answer.

Thanks

"Thats a good question and you would only get a hypothetical answer here at best. I would try an experiment and use a fixed amount of fuel and actually measure it. ie. so much in the tank till it runs dry. Don't forget a jerry can

"Milos, this is not directly applicable to your motor, but here are some test numbers from a 150 Merc, 2 stroke direct injected.

The first number being the rpm's the second, fuel consumption in gallons per hour.

3000 4.3 (approx half throttle)
4000 7.1 (almost 2/3 throttle)
5000 11.1 (about 90%)
WOT 14.3

So from these numbers, running two motors at 50% should burn 8.6 gallons per hour, while running 1 motor at 90 would guzzle 11.1. Of course your numbers will differ, but the principal should be the same..."

"Actually Jim, those numbers were for a Direct Injected 2 stroke - it's numbers are almost twice as good as a "conventional" or classic 2 stroke of the same horsepower, so they have come a long way..."
