Hi does anyone know if you can

Hi does anyone know if you can get an inline meter to measure fuel consumption (Gallons or litres per hour)Just thought it would be a good way of monitoring how much fuel i have left in the tank the fuel gauge is very inacurate.

"El,
Thanks for the tip. Been shopping for one, but did not want to pay 200 to 300+ for one and was concerned if the Navman did the job.. Thanks again."

"Robert, the old saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. The Navman is not known for its durability (I heard that Flo-Scan is a far, far superior unit in all aspects), but I figured out I needed it to work well for 1-2 years so that I could fine-tune my engine, test several props, and draw curves with the fuel consumption per mile at different RPM so that I can accurately determine the economy RPM range. After that, I had a pretty good idea of when I needed to fill-up and still have a good safety margin. My Navman is starting to give occasional false readings (mainly at low RPM), but after over 4 years of usage I think I got my money's worth.

"I pretty much subscribe to the same philosophy. Generate a set of curves and use them. If I could borrow a unit for the weekend, I would not buy one! BTW...I spent too many years as an electronic design engineer and I would suspect that any problems that you are seeing with that unit are transducer related, especially if is installed before your filter. Also, some years of varnish buildup from the gas would tend to impair the transducer. Perhaps a good soaking and flushing in alcohol?"

"Robert, I believe I have read somewhere that the jewels where the turbine shaft is supported in the transducer are the problem, they don't seem to last. The newer units may be better than the old ones, though.

My apologies for not answering your e-mail from July 31, I just found it a couple of days ago in the "junk mail" folder (no idea why the spam filter sent it there)."

"Saw at least one transducer design where there was no turbine, just a ball that ran in a circular loop due to venturi induced flow past the track. light and photocell counted the "loops". Also, at $20 some dollars for a replacement transducer for the Navman, doubt its real "jewels". Most likely just plastic.

Re: July31 email... figured as much, no problem."
