frozen nissan 5hp

Hi,
I have a nissan 2 stroke, 5 hp outboard about 8 yrs old. always kept inside used only occasionally for abalone dives-last seaon, it started to run rough and then would die. Brought it home and worked a little on it-put in new spark plug, checked for fuel supply, both worked. I figured it was the carb needed cleaning. At the time I worked on it, it turned over easy with the rope pull. I realized I needed a manual to work on the carb so I put it back in the garage and thought about other things. I just recently got a manual and took the motor out and set it up on the stand. I could not get the motor to turn over with the rope pull. (yes it was in neutral) I took the rope pull system off and put a big socket wrench on the nut of the main pulley and could not get it to budge. Took off the head and it really did not look to bad(although I am not very knowledgable) there seemed to be a very small amount of burn or corrosion on the piston edges. my question is-can this be rebuilt by a backyard mechanic or is it best used as an anchor? I have rebuilt a car engine as a teenager (a long time ago) so I think I have basic mechanic skills. The rest of the motor is in great shape and I hate to toss it---waddya think??

thanks for any input,
flojo

These motors will usually come unstuck. You can use a tool that spans the 3 flywheel puller holes, and has a long handle on it to apply torque to the crankshaft. (unless the LU is what's jammed).
