"Firstly. I am new to this forum so excuse me if this was answered and i did not find it in the search.
I have always had outboard engines, but i am looking at moving to a bigger boat and the inboard boats seem to have a better price. however some of them are raw water cooled especially one i saw that i like a sun runner with twin AQ 225 V8 Volvo Pentas with the duo prop outdrives.
can anybody tell me how difficult a task it is and how much on average it might cost to convert one of these to fresh water cooled. I will be using it in salt water all the time.
I am a prety competent mechanic just with almost no V8 experience. more outboards and 4cyl japanise autos.
also I never liked carbs, although the evinrude V6 carbs with no adjustment are ok, is it difficult and or expensive to convert these engines to fuel injection. that is if they are not already.

Thanks

"Converting these engines to F

"Converting these engines to FWC can be done with a stock kit. When last I priced them they were in the range of 900 to $1000 each. If the engines are old and have been used in salt water all their lives, I'm not sure that it would be worth it. there are two major flavors of FWC setups, full and partial. Full kits FWC the whole engine EXCEPT of the exhaust manifolds. Partial kits, don't do the manifolds. In both cases, the exhaust elbows are raw water cooled.
Its basically a screw driver and wrench job, not that difficult. I would recommend that if you do this, that you convert your raw water inlet from "thru the drive" to thru hull, with strainer. FWC kits, especially the full ones need a LOT of water flow... in the neighborhood of 40 GPM. Installation of a full kit, in broad strokes involves: rerouting of some of the water lines, replacing the T'stat and installing a special gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust elbow.... some kits, I believe include a larger raw water pump. Installation of the heat exchanger varies by kit...some mount vertically next to the engine, some horizontally in the front of the engine (above the belts)."
