Found the problem now need part for 8hp Evinrude

Thanks for the help in locating the stuck shifter problem with my 8hp Evinrude (1994 E8RLE ). The detent balls were worn badly and the forward gear had large round pockets worn into it where the detent balls would hang up. I found the Balls and plunger but I can't find a good used or new forward gear. Part #0432144. The ones I find at supply houses are over $200. I could use help finding a good used lower unit or good used gear or a NOS gear or someting I can afford on my SS.

I hava a similar unit (6 HP 1989) with the same type of drive configuration.
My oldest son actually managed to shear the drive balls.
Are you sure you need a new fwd gear.
Post some pics. I thought the same thing, but my dealer set me up with his mechanic to take a look.
He told me it looked fine. It has been for 3 years now.

I actually have it apart and the forward gear has 2 spots worn deep into the area that pushes detent balls. The two spots are worn so the balls won't move out of them. The rear gear is hardly worn at all. The balls are not sheared but badly worn.
