"Hoping I can get some help. About 15 (?) years ago my brother found a mercury outboard while snorkling. It is missing the cowling but I'm guessing it is around a 9.9 hp. He took it apart, put it in a box and forgot about it. Now I have it and I'm trying to put it back together. But I can't find any information about it what so ever. I have a serial number that I can not locate on the net anywhere. It has a serial number of 7163991. Made in Mississagua, Canada. Can anyone direct me to where I can find a manual?"

"Tim, based on the serial and your limited description of the motor I very much suspect you have a 1979 either 7.5 or 9.8 horse motor.

An excellent manual for general repair, upto and including a rebuild would be Seloc's.

Seloc's "Volume 1 for 1965-1991 1 and 2 cylinder models" will be just what you need - available in book form at most marine dealers or on-line (from this site) - either format is about 35 bucks...."
