I have the thermo prob figured out - there isnt one.
My next prob is I need recoil starter parts, the older style that has the gear under the flywheel.
Anyone know if any of these parts are avalible?
All I need is the part that makes the gear slide up. I cant seem to figure how it works? any help from you guys who know much more than I?
To the guy with the 92, I think it is 50:1 like mine. 16oz oil to 6 gallons gas"

The parts aren't cheap. I recently rebuilt the starter like yours on an 8HP motor.
The part that makes the gear slide up is a pin that goes through the slots in the starter pinion gear. That pin is held in place with the screw that is in the top center of the "rewind spring arbor". Basically, look straight down on your starter pinion gear, and you should see a small screw head in the center recess of that vertical shaft going through the center of the pinion.
If you need help, let me know. I've the whole service manual, and I've had those parts apart and together many times. Most Mercury dealers should be able to get those parts for you, but I know Fair Winds can.
