"I love the one I bought from NAPA so much, I went back and got another! I hated the one I got from Harbor Freight, however.

Here's a trick: Try it out FIRST by aiming it at the palm of your hand. If it reads around 90 ' F, you're golden.

Thanks"

"Gentlemen...
With all due respect, could someone give me a name/model number of a reasonably priced heat gun?

To make a wise purchase I do need more than just bare information.

JUST IN TIME -- ES ???

Thanks guys/gals"

"Don:

I apologize for being too lazy to walk out into the garage and see what unit I actually have.

It's a Raytek Minitemp, and it's "JA" (Jeff Approved). I have two of them and they work great.

Sorry,

Jeff"

"Not a problem Jeff. The info is much appreciated. I now have a baseline to work from and I would think I will probably go your route as you sound pretty happy with your gear.

Thanks for your patience and help.

"DON, I use an older RAYTEK RA

"DON, I use an older RAYTEK RAYNGER STL. THIS has been worth its weight in gold ,between checking race car tire temps, header tube temps for fuel distribution issues and a whole lot of good things. while I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE THIS MODEL IS STILL MADE, I BELIEVE I would look at getting one with a laser light to aim your gun. This assures that you are reading what you aim at.Just my two cents worth on this question. TURBOMAN ROLL TIDE 12-0"

""Race car tire temps,&#34

""Race car tire temps," eh?

First time I saw that done, Rusty Wallace did that to his race truck soon as he pulled into the pits at Nazareth. (The wife and I were Pit Security volunteers.) Was about to ask him what the heck he was doing when he yelled the temps to a pit dude, who began writing them down.

Handy little gadgets. Did I mention that the cat is about 100 degrees?

"MistaHays - there's a use

"MistaHays - there's a used MT4 on ebay under $25.

FWIW, Fluke bought raytek ~ 5 yrs ago. Fluke is a high end test equipment mfg so they can't be bad. also, after reading Al, Jeff, Rick, and others rave about these things, I revisited them and boy did the price come down. I nabbed a fluke IR gun and have operating baselines for all my 4-cycle, water-cooled stuff now.

Only 1 drawback to these things - Kids - my kids asked to use the fluke and proceeded to kill the battery over a weekend as they measured everything in and around the house...at least they told me it stopped working"

"Mark,

Don't feel too bad about the kids eating up batteries. I STILL measure up my hands, a/c vent, mirrors, dog, carotoid artery, ....and I'm 55 !

"Gotta have one. I can think of all sorts of things to measure. Beer temp. AC output, engines, gen, turbos, transmissions... bachelorettes that come around on the boat."

One other thing about FLUKE test equipment ... Their customer service is as good as Ritz Carlton and Disney...and those two wrote the book on customer service.

"I've never had the opportunity to deal with Fluke's CS...good to know they are competent.

I got a little tweaked with the kids only because the battery was dead when I needed to use the IR thermometer, maybe I should have said fessed up.....

MistaHays has me thinking that having a handful of these things could function as both kid and adult entertainment devices........"
