"I have a 1970 evinrude 40 hp. I am not getting spark on my bottom cylinder so i decided to take the flywheel off to see if there is something wrong with the coil, but i cant seem to get the flywheel off with the puller. i dont know what else to do. any suggestions."

"John, It is a taper fit. Try some penetrating oil around the flywheel threads. Put the nut on flush with the top of the crank and whack it firmly. or better yet tighten the puller up and whack the puller screw that touches the end of the crank."

This might be done already but

This might be done already but make sure you get the other three small hex head screws out from the face of the flywheel beforehand if you haven't already!

I don't see any hex head s

I don't see any hex head screws on the face. there are only the nut and the 3 holes that the puller attaches to. unless im missing something. I also put the puller on it and hit with a hammer and also pushed up on the flywheel while doing it. I have tried for 3 days to get it off. Thinking of trying alittle heat. think that will work?

I'm not sure - I have neve

I'm not sure - I have never had to really fight with mine. The last time I had to do an emergency 'looksie' I used a large flat head screw driver levered under the flywheel using the engine hoist ring as a pivot point. I then loosened the main nut so that it was flush with the top of the hub and gave it a few good square whacks with a hammer. Popped up after a few more hits. How long has the penetrating oil been sitting?

"Jon, Heat is going to be bad

"Jon, Heat is going to be bad for the magnets."

"Make a ring out of some rope

"Make a ring out of some rope then wrap the rope around the flywheel, under each side, then hang the whole engine from the ceiling, hold it but don't support it's weight, it needs it's own weight to help pull. Then hit the crankshaft nut (which should be screwed on the crankshaft just above flush with the top of the crankshaft) hard but not super hard with a lump hammer. You really need two people to do this just incase anything goes wrong with the rope."

I had to use kroil to get mine

I had to use kroil to get mine loose it took 3 day soaking but she came off with a sheared key boy way that's a pain.. just my thoughts i hope it helps

"The correct procedure is to i

"The correct procedure is to install the proper OMC flywheel puller with the correct bolts. Tighten the puller down. Tighten the $%^&**( out of the center bolt. Go inside and have lunch. Usually, when you return, you will see that your flywheel broke loose. (Leave the crank nut on loosely, or the flywheel will be circling the moon) (No, it won't ever come loose if you watch it) For a really tough one, I have had to wait overnight. Good luck with it!"
