Flywheel Painting

I'd like to remove the rust and repaint my 1966 Evinrude Flywheel. What kind of paint and correct color should I use?
It's now an off white yellowish color. Guessing it's changed from original with age.

I checked my books... it doesn't say. Drawing from memory, it seems to me that the flywheel on that model was sort of a cream color.

Paint it black. It will look like a newer motor.
